Lapis Amulet

Product Number: Raj031antlapis
Price: $300.00

Antique Silver Amulet and Bead set with Gem Grade Lapis. One-of-a-kind, museum piece. Approximately three inches by two and one half inches. Comes with twenty-eight inch sterling snake chain. This amulet represent a Shiva Lingham surrounded by the Lotus form representing the Goddess. This form is central in any Hindu temple where the God Shiva is worshipped; hence the amulet is a kind of portable temple. We added a silver backing, incorporated the antique bead at the top, and added a piece of gem-grade Lapis at the bottom. Why the Lapis? Lapis was one of the most precious stones to the Ancient Egyptians and the most of the civilizations that followed them. It is regarded as the most powerful of stones for the overall maintenance of physical health. At the same time, its deep, intense blue represents high spirituality. It is the stone of the ancient priesthoods. The finest Lapis has always come from Afghanistan, and this is no exception. Gem-grade Lapis has four times the hardness of cheaper grades and its color remains unchanged through the centuries, even when exposed to the sun. When shaped and sold as beads, this grade of Lapis commands a price equal to that of high grade pearls.

The Making and Marketing of Silver and Stone Jewelry

mark keller collection

Our jewelry is all made in very small lots, or is a one-of-a-kind creation. One reason for this is that the stones themselves are made, by the earth, in very small lots. I don't mean to say that there is only a small supply of, say, Amethyst in the world. I mean that Amethyst is a crystal, and to find consistency of color from one Amethyst to another, you have to take the stones cut from the same crystal. So you are working in small lots, and you quickly come to recognize that this kind of jewelry cannot be mass produced.

So how is it possible for a department store to have a seemingly endless supply of certain designs, priced very reasonably, available for re-order by serial number? This is due to the wonders of modern chemistry and lab technology. All mass produced stone jewelry is the product of a) synthetic stone production, b) radiation, c) heat treatment. There is no other way to produce thousands of identical models of the same design in the same stone.

Having noted this, we give our assurance that all of the stones in our jewelry are 100% natural. Their color and radiance are the creations of the earth, not technology.
